A busy office

I read with amazement in a national newspaper yesterday, that one of Australia's leading corporations is enforcing a clear desk policy. The list of demands was quite long.   To me it seems this corporation is taking away the individuality of their employees.  Today I looked at my desk, my noticeboard and really appreciated the way our company values the individual.  I love my office and take pride in it but don't feel compelled to clear the desk every night.
I'm so glad I don't work for the giant company.  I imagine the only people who can speak up are those like me.

  4. Go the clutter - its shows that you are spatially aware of your environment :)

  5. I think that only encourages the "hiding of uncompleted work" :) plus what does it achieve? When you come in the next morning you have to go looking for your work and may forget where you have hidden some!! Not productive at all..... I think they need to rethink it!

  6. We had a clean desk policy at my last work too. I appreciated it for the safety aspect - if my family wasn't on display - they couldn't be targeted against me, plus sensitive information wasn't on display for cleaners etc. However in saying that, in my own environment I work best in organised chaos.:)

  7. I really see your point Allana. Sensitive information should be locked away.
When I was a young Mum I once cleaned a bank. It was a great job andi took such pride in my work. I can honestly say I never once looked at anything lying on desks. I believe cleaners are carefully chosen to suit the job at hand.

  8. I think it is fair to insist that the desk is cleared at the end of the day otherwise you just lose things. While I am sewing my sewing table is a mess but I like to clean up at the end of a project. It is like clearing the mind ready for a new creative splurge.
