Hi and sorry it has taken me so long to drop by and see if you were home again. Hope Wales was fab. Had half hoped to see you but do realise that we are a four hour drive away from where you were so I should try not to be the colonial who says "you live in London, do you know xxxx?"!
ReplyDeleteAmazing to see your dublin bay rose flowering when all my garden is shutting down. Just beautiful.
What a lovely Christmas idea ....here is my entry...when my mother passed away 27 years ago at the age of 55...we were devestated as we always had Christmas at mums ...so we started a new tradition with our Christmas lunch... we still cooked the conventional roast lunch but would pack it all up in the eski's and custards for the pudding and gravy for the roast in themos all the vegies and the pud packed in alfoil in towel and foild lined laundry basket then we would all gather to toss a coin and get the kids to count by 5s (that was how far we would drive eg..35 kls) then we would do the same for north ,S,E and west...we would make sure we could take the dog with us and off we would go...we have had some awesome lunches in amazing places...this year there will be 16 0f us going to an unknown (as yet)destination...all the trimmings go too...our two girls have continued on the tradition....we will all be together this year we cant wait.
ReplyDeletefurther to your question as to the Christmas distances...we toss a coin and ask North or south ...then east or west...then we toss the coin again and count in increments of 5s till the coin lands..then we look at the map and decide the place to go that is closest to the distance...then off we go...we have been to some amazing place..the bank of the Nile river. Greens Beach, Bicheno,Bridport, Beechford,Hollybank Forest, the forest at the back of Wegeena, Devonport...the list goes on...but it is always to a very secluded part of the destination...not were there are lots of people.
ReplyDeleteHi Chris. What a wonderful garden you have here. It is the kind of garden that I like too. I am always trying to make mine more "cottagey" but the gophers are winning the battle right now! Thanks for your comments over on my blog. Christmas traditions: we have a board game that my daughters and I have made up and we try and play it every year (at least the years that they are here. Christmas seems to be an "every-other-year" thing here). Very nice meeting you. I will come back again later and really delve into it deeper.
ReplyDeleteHi Chris.. We have lots of traditions to do with Christmas each year... but sticking to traditions with friends... My stitching buddies and I always have a Christmas get together each year, the week before Christmas. Each of us brings something to eat and a little present for everyone. We're so used to doing this now, that we all know exactly what each of us has to bring.. some of us are the 'sweet' bringers, some the 'savoury' and some the 'drinks'. It works really well for us. I'm the 'cheese and biscuits' girl he he!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Chris, we don't have too many Christmas traditions as most years there were two of us in the family who had to work... One of the little things my daughter and I do is to make Christmas guacamole!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Chris for the Venice info...my Birthday treat next year may be...l'll be looking in to this one
ReplyDeleteWould love the give away...if yoe come over again and reach Shropshire (lots to see up here) would love to meet up

Hugs x
Mine would have to be the ten years in a row having Mum and Dad for a Hot christmas lunch, but then that changed when Mum died, lovely memories and photos to hold on to though Chris. xx
ReplyDeleteThan you to all who joined in the fun for my give away.
ReplyDeleteI love to father my friends for drinks and nibbles for a festive catch up. Our secret Santa gifts ave an exotic theme like luxury or gourmet yet only $5 limit.
I'm amazed at the thought and effort involved. To receive a small pack of coffee or a luxurious bath cube means so much. Cost doesn't have to be an issue.
The winner of my give away is Nettie. Your gathering is a wonderful idea Nettie.
