Last night I watched Compass on ABC. It was about women who have been affected by the loss of loved ones through war.
All of the stories were sad but the most profound for me was a very beautiful older lady who said she had not held the hand of a partner for over 60 years.
Anzac day is such a sad day.
My husband is sick today and it has really made me stop and think about those who have suffered loss.
The fire is very comforting today.
I completely understand about the sadness. We have all paid a terrible price for our comfortable lifestyle. We need to be reminded of that. Unfortunately I don't believe war will ever go away it just changes.
ReplyDeleteVery lovely post, Chris. I recently watched a documentary here about the blitz and it was heart breaking. War is heart breaking. I hope your husband is feeling better soon xxx
ReplyDeleteI agree with Val, there's always a war somewhere in the world, and it's not only the people who are killed and injured that suffer, it's whole families and indeed friends that suffer the grief and loss for a lifetime, when will man ever learn. It's so sad !!
ReplyDeleteTell Chris to get well soon. x x x x
Chris what a moving story, imagine how many more stories out there just like that. xx Hope Chris is on the mend today :)
ReplyDeleteDo you know the series "Darling Buds of May"? When I watched it the first time round I thought Pop was a bit of a philanderor (spelling?) but that was with the eyes of youth. Recently with a bit of experience on board I realise that the series was post war and there was such a lack of men. I now realise that he was not being trivial but sensitive to the single women in the village, probably destined to always be single.
ReplyDeleteIt was an excellent doco - the fortitude of those women is amazing - and the once loved and lost stories really showed the depth of human emotion wonderfully.
ReplyDeleteHope Chris is recovered in front of the fire !
Thank you all for your kind wishes. Chris is back to normal.
ReplyDeleteThink there is a nasty bug out there!!
